Post-COVID recovery of ophthalmology services in partnership with community optometry
This session will explore the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on ophthalmology services, how this has affected patient access to care and what needs to be done moving forward to ensure patients can access the essential services that community-based optometry and ophthalmology providers deliver. With an ageing population and an already increased demand on services as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, waiting lists are substantial and the backlog is a ticking time bomb for eye health. The need for innovation in the delivery of eye health services is more important than ever. The presentation will explore the role of community optometrists within the delivery of ophthalmology services and how the optometry and ophthalmology sectors can work together to support patients with their eye health needs, delivering effective and innovative care pathways in an accessible community-based setting.
