Demonstration and discussion workshop: The use of amniotic membrane application in the management of dry eye disease
This demonstration and discussion session will include an introduction and background to amniotic membrane transplantation and explore potential indications for application in an optometry setting and the literature supporting application into these settings. The session will demonstrate the application of amniotic membrane via a bespoke bandage contact lens for outpatient application (provided by NuVision Biotherapies, UK). This is the only amniotic membrane preparation available for outpatient application in the United Kingdom. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and hear the views of their peers during the discussion session.
Learning outcomes:
Practitioners will be able to explain to patients about the use of amniotic membranes for dry eye disease
Practitioners will recognise the indications for using amniotic membranes relative to their scope of practice.
