Eyewear in the UK is changing as consumer needs and preferences evolve. Optical shops remain the main distribution channel for spectacles in the UK, as consumers seek expertise, advice and know-how when it comes to lenses and frames and to a lesser extent, sunglasses too. However, optical shops face fiercer competition from internet retailers, and apparel and footwear specialists. Despite consumers still visiting opticians to test their sight, they are increasingly considering the Internet channel as a channel to purchase their contact lenses and solutions. It is key to standardise the consumer experience in-store and online, getting to know each client, and thus their needs, preferences and tastes; to meet their expectations in terms of value and price.
