100% Optical will be showcasing the best of young British design talent this weekend, with the results of the RCA Eyewear Design Competition. The winning designs have been made up as prototypes with the help of Algha Works in London, and an overall winner will be announced in a debate on the Fashion Hub at 12:30 on Monday 9th February.
The Eyewear Design Competition was organised in collaboration with the world-renowned Royal College of Art and entailed its students being invited to submit designs for eyewear under two main categories: Couture or Ready to Wear. From an initial 55 entries across a variety of creative courses, three finalists have been selected for each competition category. Read more about the competition here
The competition has already attracted interest from stylists and fashion designers, and one of the frames, designed by Jewellery and Metalworks student Sari Räthel (pictured), will feature in a Jimmy Choo fashion shoot later this month.
The judging panel includes RCA tutors Flora McLean and Heather Holford as well as industry luminaries Marie Wilkinson (Cutler and Gross); designer Emma Montague; Walter Berwick (Algha Works); legendary designer Lawrence Jenkin and Jason Kirk (Kirk and Kirk). Read more about the judges here.
