Fight for Sight, the UK’s leading eye research charity, has some really exciting events this year for you to challenge yourself, get fitter, have fun and get fundraising! There’s something for everyone, whether you’re new to fitness and health New Year resolutions or an experienced runner looking for something a bit different.

Here are Fight for Sight’s top five events for 2018:

Skydive for Sight

Fight for Sight takes over the Hinton Airfield in Northamptonshire on 5 May and the charity wants to recruit a team of fantastic flying fundraisers. Long-time Fight for Sight supporter Debbie White, who lives with a condition called retinitis pigmentosa, did her first Fight for Sight sky dive three years ago with 27 friends, raising over £7,000. This year Debbie and the gang are aiming even higher, so to speak, and want to raise £10,000 for the charity. Details, including minimum sponsorship levels, are on the Fight for Sight web site: https://www.fightforsight.org.uk/get-involved/events/skydive-for-sight/

National Three Peaks Challenge

There is something down to earth for those who prefer their feet on the ground. Take on the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales in this fast-paced and physically challenging adventure. Considered one of Britain’s toughest outdoor events, the National Three Peaks Challenge takes in the dizzy heights of Ben Nevis (1,344m), Scafell Pike (978m) and Snowdon (1,085m). Over the course of two days, you will trek around 26 miles and ascend to a total height of almost 3,000m. This is a serious challenge which requires a good level of fitness, as well as plenty of grit and determination. Ultimately, however, your hard work will be rewarded with spectacular views, a huge sense of achievement and the knowledge that you are part of the Fight for Sight, helping to create a future everyone can see. There are various dates available between June and September for this challenge but sign up soon as they’re already going fast. Cotswold Way Challenge

Another option for those who prefer walking or running – starting in beautiful Bath on 30 June, the Cotswold Way Challenge offers 100 km of footpaths and trails to get to the Cheltenham finish line. You can join as an individual or as a team, and there are 50 km and 25 km distance options. Enjoy en-route free hot meals, drinks, full support with pace walkers, physios, medics, and massages to support you all the way. Organised by Action Challenge, the event has different sponsorship targets for the different distances – details on the Fight for Sight web site: https://www.fightforsight.org.uk/get-involved/events/cotswold-way-challenge/

London to Paris bike ride

Travel from one great European city to another, powered by your own cycling steam, starting on 26 July. Over the course of three days, cyclists will cover an impressive 460 kms. Setting off from London, the group heads towards Kent then out to the countryside towards the White Cliffs of Dover. The French leg of the journey commences the next day, through beautiful countryside as Team Fight for Sight heads for the town of Amiens and then, the next day, a final push towards Paris. There are different options for the registration fee and challenge costs – details on the Fight for Sight web site: https://www.fightforsight.org.uk/get-involved/events/london-to-paris-bike-ride-tour-de-france/ Note: until 28 February 2018 there’s 20% off the registration fee for this event.

Great North Run

The Simplyhealth Great North Run is a highlight in the runners’ calendar. Taking place this year on 9 September, join with more than 50,000 other runners, including world class athletes, to tackle the 13 mile course. Starting just outside Newcastle city centre, the world’s biggest half marathon takes in the iconic Tyne Bridge and finishes in front of cheering crowds in the coastal town of South Shields. With a vibrant atmosphere like no other, this run is firmly established as a fundraisers favourite. Join #TeamFightforSight and they’ll be with you every step of the way. More information on their web site: https://www.fightforsight.org.uk/get-involved/events/simplyhealth-great-north-run/
