This session will discuss how diabetes impacts on auditory function. While many patients will inevitably have acquired dual sensory impairments as part of the ageing process, many will also have hearing loss as a consequence of their diabetes, which may be undiagnosed and unsupported.

While this session will briefly review current research into diabetes and hearing loss, in order to provide a theoretical and functional underpinning, its main purpose is to begin the conversations around how we can build on integrated working in our practices to provide a more holistic approach and enhancing the care we deliver to our patients.

Learning objective

Recognise the risk of dual sensory loss in patients with diabetes and understand how to support their holistic needs through interdisciplinary care
