Inspecs is proud to return to 100% Optical with Savile Row Eyewear in 2017.
Savile Row frames are hand-crafted from 18kt rolled gold, each frame going through over 120 meticulous processes. As a quintessentially British brand producing bespoke eyewear in the heart of the East End, Savile Row Eyewear is England’s oldest eyewear maker. Being the main supplier of aviation eyewear during the war, supplying the newly formed National Health Service, and in the present-day producing frames for iconic British celebrities such as John Lennon, Savile Row exemplifies British design, quality, and history.
London’s historical East End has been the home of the Algha Works factory since 1932, where the factory miraculously survived the Blitz. Using antique mechanical tools and drawings from centuries-old original archives, generations of expertise are applied to each bespoke piece. The Algha factory has fostered many world-class frame makers dedicated to producing the finest quality handmade eyewear. For the last 84 years, the factory has produced frames for some of the most iconic spectacle wearers in the world — from John Lennon to Daniel Radcliffe's Harry Potter, and for stars and characters from the world of cinema including Denzel Washington, Johnny Depp, Harrison Ford, Sean Connery and Ben Kingsley as Gandhi, to name a few.
Savile Row Eyewear’s classic frames, such as the Round Eye, the Panto, and the Beaufort, form the guideline and inspiration for vintage eyewear fashion even today. In addition to these timeless styles, that are still produced at Algha Works to this very day, Savile Row Eyewear now comprises a Combination Collection, hand-crafted from 18kt rolled gold and the finest Mazzucchelli acetates.
