‘Naked Runner’ are passionate about sport and product performance. They make sports performance eyewear lightweight enough to give you complete freedom, and strong enough to help you enjoy your sport, so ultimately you perform better.
A recent email from a customer of Naked Runner eyewear has highlighted the importance of protecting your eyes when playing outdoor sport.
Adam wrote to explain about his recent diagnosis of two different eye conditions called Pinguecula and Pterygium and how his sunglasses now play a key part in protecting his eyes.
The two eye conditions are believed to be directly caused by long-term exposure to UV (ultraviolet) light from the sun and to wind and dust particles whilst outdoors.
Both conditions involve growths forming on the conjunctiva (the clear covering) of the whites of your eyes and can severely affect your vision.
Adam told Naked Runner, “As a result, to slow the growth of these unsightly things in my eyes, I shall be wearing sunglasses a lot outside, even on fairly cloudy days.”
Adams situation highlights the fact that even on cloudy days, UV light can still pose a threat.
Around 80% of the sun’s UV rays can pass through clouds and the light reflecting off the clouds can even increase the strength of UV light.
UV light will even pass through glass, so it’s important that you do all that you can to protect your eyes and skin, even if the sun isn’t out in full force.
It’s important to remember that sunglasses are crucial to your overall eye health and by wearing sunglasses with a high UV rating, you can help to protect your eyes from harmful UV rays as well as wind and dust.
“I will be telling everyone I know who is a runner, walker, or cyclist etc, to look after their eyes now I know what I know.”
With the increase in popularity of sports up and down the country more and more opticians are stocking sports eyewear in their practice and explaining to their customers the importance of protecting their eyes so they can focus on playing the sport they love.
