As part of their CPD-accredited teaching session, Alis will be delivering “Orthoptics Crash Course for Eye Care Professionals” on Saturday 28th February, 15:30-16:30 at 100% Ophthalmology Event. Designed for non-orthoptist clinicians working in eye care, this practical session will:
- Clarify the differences between ophthalmic professions
- Explain when and why to refer to an orthoptist
- Clinical skills for a basic orthoptic assessment
- Highlight red flags in ocular motility and orthoptic conditions that require prompt action
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Differentiate the roles and scopes of practice of orthoptists compared with other ophthalmic professionals.
- Identify key clinical scenarios where referral to an orthoptist is appropriate and beneficial for patient care.
- Demonstrate fundamental clinical skills used in a basic orthoptic assessment, including ocular movements.
- Recognise red flag signs in ocular motility and binocular vision that require urgent orthoptic or ophthalmological input.
- Apply enhanced interdisciplinary understanding to improve patient pathways and collaborative care within eye services.
- Attendees will leave with greater confidence in navigating interprofessional roles, making appropriate referrals, and spotting red flags for orthoptic conditions, ultimately supporting more integrated and effective patient care.
