Discussion workshop: Reducing the risk of spectacle lens non-tolerance - setting expectation, the key to success!
During this discussion workshop we will present cases centered around dispensing and patients returning to practice with potential non-tolerance to their spectacle lenses. Registrants will be presented with two scenarios to analyse the potential risk of non-tolerance, understand the best recommendation (optical, mechanical and aesthetic) and how to recommend to meet patient expectation. In addition, two scenarios will discuss the return for non-tolerance, where registrants will discuss ‘what went wrong,’ and what could have been done differently at the time of dispense, whether related to the product recommendation, the dispensing technique, or in setting patient expectations.
Learning outcome(s):
Practitioners will be able to listen and understand their patient's expectations for their new spectacles, both cosmetically and optically (s.1)
Practitioners will be able to communicate effectively, by using clear, jargon-free explanations and recommendations related to lens and frame options (s.2)
Practitioners will recognise how to achieve optimal optical solutions related to the patient's lifestyle, using an evidence-based approach (s.5)
Practitioners will develop an understanding of the appropriate recommendation on lens form, lens design, materials, coatings, and tints based on the patient's prescription (s.7)
