Demonstration and discussion workshop: Dealing with the low vision patient in practice
01 Mar 2026
Dispensing Workshop
Demonstration and discussion workshop
This session uses three case records to explore how practitioners can identify and respond to patients’ needs, wants, and expectations in everyday practice. Through discussion, delegates will consider both the concerns raised directly by patients and those that may be identified through careful clinical assessment and evidence-based judgement. The session will examine practical ways to address these needs, including the appropriate use of optical and low vision aids, with discussion of their advantages and limitations. Participants will also have the opportunity to handle and explore a range of low vision devices.
Learning outcomes:
- Practitioners will examine case records to identify both stated and unstated patient needs and assess how these influence clinical decision-making and management planning
- Practitioners will describe the advantages and limitations of common optical and low vision aids and explain how these can be matched to individual patient requirements
- Practitioners will discuss strategies for exploring patient needs and expectations during the consultation
