Discussion workshop: Multi-modal OCT in modern eye care - from retinal imaging to contact lens management
This interactive discussion workshop explores how multi-modal Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) – including OCT-A, wide-field imaging, high-resolution and anterior segment scans – supports modern optometric practice. Delegates will review how OCT enhances the detection and monitoring of retinal and choroidal pathology and examine its expanding role in contact lens fitting. Through case-based discussion, delegates will learn how to interpret OCT data to assess lens alignment, edge interaction, and corneal response, applying these insights to achieve more accurate clinical assessments, improved patient comfort, and evidence-based decision-making.
Learning outcomes:
- Practitioners will discuss strategies for explaining OCT findings and management plans to patients clearly and confidently, supporting understanding and informed consent, relative to their scope of practice
- Practitioners will be able to describe how multi-modal OCT technologies contribute to the detection, monitoring, and management of retinal and choroidal conditions in everyday practice, relative to their scope of practice
- Practitioners will identify how anterior segment OCT can be used to assess corneal shape, tear film, and lens fit, and explain how these findings support optimal contact lens performance
