Discussion workshop: Ophthalmic OMGs - managing urgent eye conditions in practice
This session explores three cases involving anterior eye conditions, seen and managed in primary care. Delegates will discuss the investigations required to gather relevant diagnostic information, and how to effectively treat and manage each patient. The session will also include analysis of the limits of clinical practice and guidance on when referral is appropriate.
Learning outcomes:
-
Registrants will be able to create an appropriate management plan based on a patient’s general health, and outline how to communicate this effectively with patients
-
By the end of this session, registrants will be able to describe the management of three anterior eye conditions using the latest College of Optometrists’ Clinical Management Guidelines (CMGs), demonstrating readiness to apply this knowledge in clinical practice
-
Registrants will reflect when they have reached the limits of their scope of practice and clinical skill and recognise when referral is appropriate and in the patient’s best interest
-
Specialist optometrists will able to identify the most appropriate therapeutic treatment in the management of anterior eye conditions
