Lecture with discussion workshop
Extended depth of focus (EDOF) lenses are becoming increasingly used as an alternative to traditional monofocal lenses during cataract surgery so it is important that community optometrists and dispensing opticians have a sound understanding of this technology. This session takes a deep dive into the most implanted EDOF intraocular lens globally, looking at its optical function, it’s expected visual performance and the patient attributes that are associated with successful outcomes. Knowledge gained from the lecture is then applied to real-world patient cases, allowing practitioners to explore patient conversations around EDOF suitability and crucially recognise the effects of the lens design when performing post-op refractions.
Learning outcomes:
- Practitioners will be able to describe one best practice for performing post-operative refraction on an EDOF lens patient, relative to their scope of practice
- Practitioners will identify three lifestyle factors that influence EDOF lens suitability
- Practitioners will identify three lifestyle factors that influence the suitability of EDOF lenses for referral decisions
- Practitioners will recognise two benefits of EDOF lenses for clear and effective communication to their patients
