Lecture: Prescribing trends in myopia management
This lecture explores global prescribing trends in myopia management since 2015, drawing on survey data and practitioner insights. It highlights how attitudes toward myopia control have evolved, with growing interest in interventions such as myopia control spectacles and contact lenses, orthokeratology, and atropine. Key patterns in prescribing behaviour are discussed, including regional differences and shifts in clinical practice. The session also examines reasons behind the slower uptake of certain interventions - such as cost, access, regulatory barriers, and practitioner confidence - and considers practical solutions to improve adoption. The session aims to support practitioners in making informed prescribing decisions, enabling practitioners to better align their prescribing strategies with current evidence and patient needs.
Learning outcomes:
- Practitioners will be able to evaluate current global evidence and prescribing trends in myopia management to make informed, ethical, and evidence-based recommendations that reflect individual patient needs
- Practitioners will identify common barriers to adopting myopia control interventions, such as cost, access, and regulatory factors, are able to communicate these effectively with patients
