Peer review: A focus on mental well-being: - practical strategies for optical professionals
Mental well-being is increasingly recognised as a vital aspect of professional practice within the optical sector. Unmanaged workplace stressors for optometrists and dispensing opticians can contribute to stress, burnout, and, in some cases, lead to individuals leaving the profession. Drawing on insights from research into mental health among the profession, this peer review will examine how practitioners can recognise early signs of work-related stress, adopt evidence-based strategies to manage challenges, and build resilience for sustained well-being. Using case examples and practical solutions, participants will consider both personal and workplace approaches to well-being. The session emphasises reflection on individual strategies, enabling attendees to strengthen their own mental health, support colleagues, and contribute to healthier working environments that ultimately enhance patient care.
Learning outcomes:
- Practitioners will learn how to reflect on the importance of maintaining personal well-being and professional resilience to uphold safe and effective patient care
- Practitioners will identify ways to create and contribute to healthier working environments, recognising professional responsibility for both personal health and the well-being of the wider team
