Dispensing Workshop
Peer review
This peer review session will explore case scenarios involving patients who present to primary care with reduced vision and request support with everyday tasks. Participants will discuss how to carry out a functional needs assessment, determine the level and type of magnification required, and calculate an appropriate working range. The session will also examine the advantages and limitations of commonly available magnification devices in community practice. Delegates will consider onward pathways and review the local and national services that provide additional support for patients with visual impairment.
Learning outcomes:
- Practitioners will identify functional needs and evaluate which magnification strategies are appropriate for specific patient tasks
- Practitioners will describe the methods used to calculate required magnification and outline the advantages and disadvantages of commonly used low-vision devices
- Practitioners will recognise when patients require additional support and refer to relevant local or national services to ensure continuity of care
