EYESPACE CELEBRATES TWO YEARS AS A CERTIFIED B CORPORATION™
B Corp certification, awarded by non-profit organisation B
Lab, recognises businesses that meet high standards across governance,
sustainability, employees, community and environmental impact.
Since initially achieving certification in 2023, Eyespace
has continued to embed responsible practices across its operations, products,
and supply chain. Over the past 24 months, the company has made measurable
progress in strengthening its sustainability strategy.
CEO and Co-Founder, Jayne Abel, commented: “The
positive impacts of B Corp certification provide fresh energy and motivation to
our sustainability mission, but it is the ongoing changes that truly matter.
Certification reflects our long-standing commitment to sustainability, continued focus on reducing plastic
waste, and serves to strengthen our culture and community.
Being a part of the growing global B Corp movement continues to guide Eyespace
and our team’s daily decisions, as we work to raise standards across the
business and the optical industry.”
Eyespace first accelerated its sustainability agenda in 2019, laying the foundations for its B Corp journey. Since certification, the company has expanded this roadmap with initiatives designed to reduce environmental impact and support long-term responsible growth. This includes the progressive rollout of 100% biodegradable packaging and demo lenses across collections from 2020, independently tested to recognised ISO standards (ISO 15985:2014 and BS EN ISO 14855-1).
Product remains a key focus area for Eyespace, with over 430 SKUs now classed as sustainable based on defined material criteria and plans to increase this further by 2030. As part of its B Corp commitment, the company launched a free demo lens recycling scheme in January 2025 which, available to any optical practice and RX lab across the UK, addresses one of the eyewear industry’s most significant sources of single-use plastic waste, with approximately over 130,000 (300kg) demo lenses already diverted from waste.
Product Director and Chief Sustainability Officer, Emily Andrews, added: “Responsible product development has always been central to Eyespace, and B Corp certification has further strengthened how we design, source and manufacture our eyewear. It has reinforced the importance of meticulous record keeping and full traceability across every sustainable element of a frame, from demo lenses and frame materials to the packaging.
Emily continued;
“Our commitments have also driven practical supply-chain decisions, including a
transition to sea freight wherever possible, which is now a standard
consideration before products ship. Looking ahead, our focus is on continuing
to raise the bar for sustainability in eyewear, while better highlighting our
progress and supporting practices through education and CPD.”
Other recent
investments by the company include the installation of solar panels at Eyespace
HQ based in Worcestershire, UK, expanded electric vehicle charging, and a growing
number of hybrid vehicles within its fleet. The company also continues to
maintain ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 accreditations.
The company has strengthened its charitable and community
engagement in line with its social values, supporting causes including the
Trussell Trust Foodbank through matched employee donations, a 2025 YoungMinds
fundraising partnership via Rockstar frame sales, Macmillan initiatives, and
national campaigns such as Children in Need. In January 2026, Eyespace donated
over 380 frames to Vision Care for Homeless People, further reinforcing its
ongoing commitment to positive community impact.
Continuing social and environmental
impact remains a defining priority for Eyespace, and the company hopes that its
ongoing achievements will continue to resonate with its customers, both in the
UK and internationally.
