This patented design represents a new concept in contact lenses for presbyopia, for sharp images at all distances and any light condition.
The lens is not multifocal (MF) nor progressive, it is characterized by a tiny on-axis hyper refractive area that causes axial and paraxial light not to participate at the construction of focused image on the retina. The non-focusing central zone provides for an increase of depth of field to the general optical power zone of the lens thus increasing the Depth of Focus to the wearer.

Wearing a multifocal CL requires an adaptation complexity that introduces a cerebral mechanism of the wearer rather than a pure ocular one. The Afocal design doesn’t need any adaptation time as long as simultaneous vision is not involved.
