With Messenger, Odette Lunettes and Ozwald Boateng have reinterpreted the Aviator shape with remarkable technical precision. This is not a single frame, but 2 interlocking titanium frames, joined by two acetate rims, with no need to weld them together. The pad arms, traditionally located at the back of the rims, are fixed here to the front of the bridge, creating an original detail, like an inverted hem. The subtly curved top bar evokes the elegance of the tailored jackets Ozwald Boateng is renowned for. Finally, we imagined the temples as a sleeve sliding sensually over a finely engraved titanium arm.
The engraved motifs on this frame are of particular importance: the circles are adorned with the Kente motif, a modern interpretation of the traditional Ghanaian cloth once reserved for royalty. Kente symbolises supreme luxury and carries a profound cultural value, passed down through generations of the Ashanti people.
Other West African symbols enrich this frame:
- On the nose pads : The Hwehwemudua, or ‘rod of investigation’, a symbol of excellence, perfection and knowledge.
- On the temples and tips: the Nsaa, an emblem of authenticity.
These symbols reflect the deep-rooted collaboration between our two companies: working together, sharing knowledge between the worlds of eyewear and Couture, to create exceptional objects imbued with soul and identity.
