Alicia Thompson
Dr Alicia Thompson began her career in optics over 35 years ago as an optical technician, qualifying as a dispensing optician in 1994 and managing a successful practice. Alicia went on to work as clinic manager at Aston University for over ten years as well as qualifying as an examiner for ABDO. In 2006, she completed the Level 7 qualification in spectacle lens design and in 2008 was appointed director of professional exams for ABDO, where she is now director of education, research and professional development. She completed her degree at Canterbury Christ Church University in 2010 and a part-time PhD at Aston University in 2021 looking into paediatric facial anthropometry in relation to spectacle frame design. In addition, Alicia also serves on many committees such as the education committee and expert advisory group for the General Optical Council, ABDO research and clinical committee chair, academic committee and British Standards for spectacles. She has been invited to speak at many conferences and educational events worldwide.
