Gerard Ainsworth

Gerard is an experienced consultant ophthalmic surgeon with over 19 years of experience working within the NHS. He specialises in cataract surgery, having performed over 30,000 procedures, as well as the management of glaucoma and corneal disease. Gerard is skilled in offering a range of lens options, including multifocal and extended depth of focus lenses to reduce spectacle dependence, and toric lenses for astigmatism correction. He also has extensive experience in corneal refractive laser surgery. Gerard has served as clinical director for ophthalmology at North Cumbria Integrated NHS Care Trust and has a keen interest in improving surgical outcomes and patient experience. A fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, Gerard has sat on the faculty for microsurgical skills training, which involved mentoring junior surgeons. He also holds a postgraduate diploma in cataract and refractive surgery and a certificate in laser and refractive surgery.
