Clinical engagement manager, Specsavers

Maria McAllister graduated in 2009 from the University of Ulster with a BSc in optometry and completed her pre-reg year at Specsavers Montrose. She then moved to Duncan and Todd Opticians, starting as a resident optometrist in Dundee City and progressing to practice manager. In 2015, she was promoted to professional services business development manager for the group and was appointed retail director in 2017.  During this time, she completed a BA in business management, the IP course at Glasgow Caledonian University, and has attained a PGCert in psychotherapy and counselling. Maria has held management and senior management roles within the optical sector for over nine years. Within her role as retail director, she was responsible for, and had strategic oversight of, professional services, hearing care and retail departments. She has a wealth of knowledge in mergers and acquisitions, strategic planning, and forecasting, raising clinical standards, and change management - and has a proven track record of producing consistent outstanding results in both clinical and financial KPIs. Her primary interest is in people and what makes them feel fulfilled and engaged in their work. It is this that drove her to study her BA in business management and, most recently, an MSc in counselling and psychotherapy (in progress). It is through these studies she has deepened her knowledge and understanding of how best to support people in their work in primary optical care, inclusive of all positions within the practice. Maria is now the clinical engagement manager for Scotland and the North division for Specsavers.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: New dates for 100% Optical - 23-25 April 2022

Following the rapid escalation of Omicron cases across the UK, and with new restrictions possible in the early part of 2022, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone 100% Optical 2022. We have been in dialogue with our official partner the AOP, as well as the OSA, ABDO a number of exhibitors and stakeholders and can say they support this move. We would not wish to put anyone at risk and neither would they.

The new dates for 100% Optical are 23-25 April 2022, and will continue to take place at the ExCeL London.  All visitor registration, exhibitor stand, sponsorship and hosted meetings will automatically be transferred to the new dates. Working with our education partners at the AOP, we will endeavour to honour CPD & education bookings as well, but of course we will need to reconfirm speaker availability for the new dates.

We will be in touch in the New Year to reconnect, and discuss how we can utilise the extra time we have been given to plan this event. 100% Optical 2022 will still be the best one yet, and one we will all have waited over two years for. In the meantime, please do make sure that if you have booked hotel rooms and flights you contact your providers to cancel your booking or move forward in line with the new show dates.  We know how hard this is for everyone, so thank you for your continued support. We know the industry cannot wait to be reunited, as we saw record registrations for this event in the last two weeks. We will use the time to make the event even better.
