Shelby Temple
Dr Shelby Temple is an honorary senior research fellow at the University of Bristol and co-founder and director of Azul Optics Ltd where he has led the development of an innovative tool for rapid and easy assessment of a key risk factor for age-related macular degeneration. His translation of academic research into a commercial venture saw him receive the prestigious Innovator of the Year award in 2017 awarded from the UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council. Shelby is actively involved in developing and delivering courses on the dangers of high energy visible (blue light) and the importance of macular pigments in protecting the retina from photochemical hazards of blue light and their role in improving contrast sensitivity and reducing glare.
