This interactive session will consider the best way to prepare a patient from community practice for cataract surgery. It will include: What the first appointment is for and what will happen Considerations about refractive outcomes The impact of pre-existing conditions on surgical outcome What patients worry about most or likely to complain about most How to manage to expectations.

Learning outcomes:

Practitioners will recognise the importance of explaining the implications of potential refractive outcomes to patients ahead of cataract surgery

Practitioners will recognise the ocular and patient characteristics that can make cataract surgery more challenging

Practitioners will recognise how patients presenting with ocular hypertension are managed ahead of cataract surgery

Practitioners will identify how patients with dry eye should be managed ahead of cataract surgery.
