Life at the receiving end of referrals – hospital optometry
This interactive session will consider what life is like as a hospital optometrist at SpaMedica and how referrals are managed. The learning points will centre around what makes the most helpful referral for cataract surgery patients, both pre- and post-operatively, and in general what information is essential to convey.
Learning outcomes:
Practitioners will recognise the ocular and patient characteristics that can make cataract surgery more challenging
Practitioners will recognise the importance of providing key information, such as previous refraction details and visual field plots, to help cataract surgery planning and patient management
Practitioners will identify the key aspects of a good referral for pre- and post-operative cataract patients to enable effective communication with hospital colleagues.
