Vision Care for Homeless People (VCHP) is a charity set up to provide eye care services to people experiencing homelessness or who are vulnerable for other reasons, in an accessible and friendly environment in which they feel safe, welcome and comfortable.
People experiencing homelessness are particulary disadvantaged when it comes to obtaining sight tests, glasses and eyecare. They suffer a higher level of eye problems. They find high street opticians difficult to access and are prone to losing or breaking their glasses.
We provide a comprehensive opticians service totally free of charge. As only one third of our patients are eligible for NHS funding we make up the difference by using volunteers, through gifts in kind and with charity fundraising.
